As this never-ending election cycle grinds on, we've heard a great deal about this state or that state's likely influence on the outcome. We've heard about how Sarah Palin governs the biggest state in America and how Joe Biden has only three electoral college votes to rally in Delaware*. Last night, as Hubbicula and I were engaged in yet another profound political discussion, we began to wonder...
Is Flanny as big as Connecticut?
Yes.
She's also bigger than Massachusetts.
She is, however, just as big as New Hampshire. (Which, as Hubbicula pointed out, looks like half of a marijuana brownie, cut in half by two potheads. With Vermont being the other half. Mmmm...brownies.)
Thank you for joining me for this political discussion. I hope it has helped you get closer to making your decision about whom to support in this presidential election.
*PS: for those of you keeping score at home, Alaska, though quite large in a geographical sense, also only has three electoral college votes to bring to the table.
To Annie
Although I don't know you so well as much as I know your sister. I really hope you fight through and beat this cancer once and for all.
Our prayers are with you. We'll be by your side every step of the way.
Once the treatment is over, the cancer is gone I'll promise we'll do more exciting things everyday.
I should not be worrying about the small stuff, the stuff that doesn't matter because what matters is if today were the last day for me to live, I would change the things I did today to make the day worthwhile by sharing it with the friends and family that I love.
We should, ultimately:
Fill our Lives With Opportunities to Express Love
Stay strong Annie. Stay strong. We'll fight this with you together.
Tuesday went to work and slowly, over the day started sneezing and eventually became Rudolf's Twin sister.
Wednesday stayed home and passed out in bed. Although I resorted to watching Oprah at one stage and CRIED *sigh* because they started talking about the guy who wrote, "Don't sweat the small stuff" and how he died early. Inspirational and something I should look into.
Thursday got up, changed, walked to the bus stop and nearly collapsed. So I returned home. BUT, an arguement followed about how I was being lazy but ignorance and drugs are bliss because I passed out again. Although by the afternoon my mum made me do housework again.
Now, when I mean housework. She made me do the unthinkinable. I rearranged my room. Now it may not sound so bad - but I have a queensized bed (used to belong to my Queen Sister who loves space) and a gigantic table (also belonging to the queen) and rearranging it was so painful. Dust accumulated from under the bed and boxes not to mention behind my table blew up everywhere and by the end I got an allergic reaction.
Conversation:
Me: Mum I'm reacting to the dust. Dustmites mum! Help.
Mum: Aiya stop being a baby and just do it
Me: Fine
5 minutes later.
Me: Call an ambulance. I can't see
Mum: Aiya.
Brother: Oh shit.
So yes, I have not recovered. Worse off than before and now have a puffy face plus a flu/cold.
Lovin' the housework.
Oh FYI: My room is now smaller than before due to the rearrangement.
But I guess a change is good right? Right?
Ok, no more complaining. Sickness - GO AWAY!
Yes, I know. I usually talk about poop. But sometimes pee is blog worthy too.
Twice this week I have put the Princess on the potty and she has peed. SkyWalker and I clap and dance and sing and she claps and it is funny.
Twice in the last week SkyWalker has NOT peed his bed. Yay for progress, however slow it is.
I stepped out of the shower and SkyWalker ran behind me, slapped my butt, sang a "hairy heiney" song and then asked where my balls were. I said I don't have them. He said rather dismissively, "Well, what DO you have?" and I told him what I have and what the mens have. He then chased me as I tried to get my underwear on and sang "Where are you heiney?"
This, however, is the kicker. It happened at least a week ago but it was too traumatic for me to blog or even tell anyone about it.
Brace yourselves.
I was sitting on the potty, peeing, when SkyWalker came in and announced he wanted to pee on my pee. Sure, fine, whatever. Before I had a chance to get up, he aimed his little wee-wee for the gap between my rear and the toilet and peed. He did have very good aim.
He peed on me.
An almost 4-year old peeing on you is much different than a newborn.
I don't think I'll ever be the same.
Would you ever consider having your life taped for a reality show?
Absolutely not.
Though I would consider doing The Amazing Race. That show rocks.
But having camera crews hang around and tape the daily stuff. Not so much.
I should be studying, but guess what I'm doing instead? Eating brownies and drinking Corona and just generally...not studying.
1) It is pouring with rain. While I was walking the dogs on the trail this morning, I slipped and fell really hard. I strongly suspected that I might have broken either my arm or my leg (or both) for a few seconds. Then I realized that if that was the case I would probably be hurting a lot more than I was. I was talking to Todd on the phone at the time and when I called him back, nearly in tears, I said "I just slipped down the wooden steps" and he said "uh oh!" in a kind of babyish voice, as if to say "Oh, too bad. Jump up!" And I was like, "What do you mean 'uh oh'? I am in PAIN here!" He said he didn't realize I was actually hurt. Apparently I must always sound on the brink of bursting into tears. I limped home in the rain. (I just love that last sentence.)
2) Political talk is all well and good but I am going to Cease and Desist before I die of a cerebral aneurysm (aka My Brain Exploding) caused by the severe dislike (aka Intense Hatred) of the asinine things Sarah Palin says and does and, frankly, I don't need it. My kids need a mother!
3) Oh, but before I do everyone should watch this. Seriously. Watch it. Do I ever put videos on my blog and expect people to care about what I'm watching? No. So just this once. Jesse and I have already watched it twice.
4) Last weekend we went to Globelfest, an annual event in our community that showcases crafts and other things of cultural significance from countries all around the world. There's food and music and dancing and activities. Purdue has more international students than any other university in America. I love our little town.
5) Last night my brother- and sister-in-law spent the night on their way to Buffalo, NY where my brother-in-law will be working with kids who need behaviour modification* at the University of Buffalo for the next year. We had dinner at Nine Irish Brothers, where we haven't been for months. Eating the delicious greasy food there I recalled how it was exactly I put on so much weight last semester. You cannot beat the BLTs at Nine Irish Brothers.
*I spent way too long trying to figure out how it write that sentence without it sounding mean, but I couldn't. Some people just need behaviour modification and there's no way to say that nicely.
Soren is now 6 months old! I have been so busy and haven't posted in about a month! We went to Nashville for a long weekend with all the siblings and our children. It was so great to see everyone, and especially to see the three kiddos together for the first time. They loved playing together. Admittedly I didn't take a single picture.....argh! I am mad at myself for not taking the initiative, I had my camera with me, so I have no excuse! I know pictures were taken, but the likelihood of me getting my hands on them is nil to none......
Soren spoke his first words this week! Mama!!!! It was shocking, since he hasn't really babbled much. He just blurted out "mama!" so loudly and proficiently! He says it all the time now, he's so proud of himself! He also said "Dada" yesterday too! Wow, two words now! I am secretly proud that he said Mama first!
And......Soren is sporting two new teeth as of yesterday! We didn't even know he was teething! He didn't display anything too out of the ordinary, just a little fussier than normal (attention span was shorter than normal) so I put my finger on his gum and there were two teeth that have already made their way through the gum. Wow! It has been awhile since I have checked I guess.
He also sitting quite nicely and crawling a tad. His hair is sooo blonde and growing quickly. It looks so cute. I am so proud of all his growth. He is a blast to be with. So a lot has changed in a short span. Blows me away! Pictures to follow!
I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox
and which
you were eyeing
with
such longing.
They were delicious
so sweet
and so cold
and it only
seemed fair.
After all,
I was the one who rode
my bike to the farmers market
and braved the SUV-driving hoards
of suburban
exodusters.
(With my apologies to William Carlos Williams.
Also, this is why I don't write poetry.)
